Germany Says It Cannot Provide More Patriot Systems to Ukraine

(MENAFN) Germany will not be able to provide Ukraine with any additional US-made Patriot air defense systems from its own stocks, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said Monday, noting that Berlin has already contributed more than its fair share to support Kiev.

Since the February 2022 escalation of the Ukraine conflict, Germany has been the second-largest weapons supplier to Ukraine, behind only the United States, allocating nearly €20 billion ($23 billion) in military aid from January 2022 to October 2025, according to reports.

Pistorius said the country’s resources have reached their limit and cannot accommodate further transfers of air defense systems. “Germany has done disproportionately much, particularly when it comes to Patriots,” the minister stated. “We have handed over more than a third of our capabilities.”

He added that Germany is still awaiting replacements for systems already provided to Ukraine and must also restore its own military’s training and maintenance capacity. “That’s why we cannot give away any more systems,” Pistorius explained.

Data from the Economy Ministry showed a sharp drop in German arms exports to Ukraine last year, with approvals totaling €1.14 billion ($1.34 billion) between January 1 and December 8, 2025, down from €8.15 billion ($9.73 billion) in 2024.

Despite this, the government plans to increase overall military support for Ukraine in 2026, earmarking €11.5 billion ($13.72 billion) for artillery, drones, armored vehicles, and two additional Patriot systems, according to reports. Pistorius confirmed the allocation but did not specify whether Patriot deliveries remain part of the plan.
