Germany Sees Drop in Reported Crime—Interior Minister

(MENAFN) According to reports, police in Germany recorded around 5.5 million criminal offenses over the past year, marking a 5.6% decrease compared with 2024, as announced by Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt on Monday.

As stated by reports, Dobrindt described the development as a “slight decline” after years of rising crime levels, suggesting it could indicate a potential long-term downward trend.

He also noted that violent crime has decreased modestly by 2.3%, with an average of about 580 violent incidents reported each day.

According to reports, the annual police statistics also show increases in several categories, including social welfare fraud, which rose by 11.5%, as well as homicide-related offenses such as murder, manslaughter, and assisted suicide, which increased by 6.5%. Sexual offenses, including rape, coercion, and aggravated sexual assault resulting in death, also rose by 8.5%.

At the same time, reports indicate declines in other areas. Cases involving robbery, extortion, and attacks on motorists dropped by 7.1%, while drug-related offenses fell significantly by 27.7%.

As stated by reports, authorities also recorded a rise in the number of minors involved in violent crime, increasing by 3.3% to around 14,200 suspects, although this growth was smaller compared with the previous year’s increase of 11.3%.
