Netanyahu Adviser Indicted Over Leak of Classified Info to German Newspaper

(MENAFN) Israeli authorities have filed an indictment against a senior adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over allegations that he leaked classified intelligence to a foreign media outlet, according to reports citing Israeli legal officials and court filings.

The case, as described in reports, involves Yonatan Urich, who is accused of transferring sensitive state material that was later published by a German newspaper after Israeli military censorship had blocked its release. Authorities say the leaked information was classified at the highest security level and obtained through restricted intelligence channels.

According to the indictment, the material was allegedly passed on after being presented in a misleading context, including claims involving internal documents attributed to Hamas. These claims were later disputed, with reports stating the document’s authenticity and framing were questioned after publication.

Legal filings further allege that the information was intended not only to bypass censorship rules but also to shape public perception during a politically sensitive period, particularly regarding criticism over ceasefire negotiations and hostage-related developments.

Prosecutors, as cited in reports, say the leak involved coordination with other individuals, including former government staff connected to the Prime Minister’s office, and may have included unauthorized access to military intelligence systems.

Authorities have characterized the case as extremely serious, noting that if proven, the charges could carry severe penalties, including lengthy imprisonment due to the sensitivity of the information involved.

Earlier proceedings had already been initiated against additional individuals linked to the same alleged information transfer network, as part of a broader investigation into the leak.
